What Is Cannabutter?- Overview And Definition

You may have probably guessed by now that Cannabutter is a mixture of cannabis and butter. However, one should consider what kind of effect they want to experience before they make cannabutter. So, to activate the psychoactive potential, the marijuana flower must undergo a stable heating process.

There are two cannabinoid components in the cannabutter. They are cannabidiol and tetrahydrocannabinol. The cannabidiol compound is not very effective, but the tetrahydrocannabinol (THC) compound can cause altered senses. So, depending upon its intended use, cannabutter will contain one of these two compounds.

How To Make Cannabutter – Know The Ingredients And Equipment

Butter can burn quickly, so while preparing the cannabutter, one must always put their eye on the pan so that it does not get overcooked. Instead of butter, you can also use olive oil or coconut oil for the infusion. But, butter is a suitable carrier for THC cannabinoids, so people use that to make cannabutter in most cases. You can also purchase it from grocery shops where cannabis is legal. The ingredients and equipment are;

  • ½ ounce/ 7-10 grams of weed
  • 1 cup/ 8 ounces of butter
  • 11/2 cup of water
  • Hand grinder
  • Glass baking dish
  • Medium saucepan
  • Wooden spoon
  • Oven
  • Cheesecloth
  • Thermometer
  • Container

How To Make Cannabutter – Step-By-Step

Making cannabutter is relatively easy if you know the steps right and if you know the proportion of the ingredients correctly. People who love weed consider it a highly efficient way of consuming it. You don’t have to be a master chef to prepare this item. One of the best things about cannabutter is that you can also make cannabis-infused sesame oil or cannabis-infused coconut oil for other dishes if you know this recipe. The steps of making cannabutter are as follows,

Step1: Decarboxylation Of The Cannabis

Before you proceed to make cannabutter, always remember we need decarboxylated weed for this item. This is an essential step because it activates the THC or CBD compounds present in cannabis. Moreover, if the weed is decarboxylated, then the lipid of the butter can mix easily with it.

First, you need to preheat your oven to 200-245 degrees Fahrenheit.

Then, use a hand grinder to crush your desired amount of weed. You can also use your hand to break the weed apart just as one does while rolling a joint.

Next, spread the crushed weed in a glass baking dish and put it in the oven. If the weed is of lower quality, keep it inside the oven for 20 minutes. If it is of high quality, then 45 minutes will be fine. And, if the weed is recently harvested, keep it in the oven for more than an hour to suck up its moisture.

After that, check on the weed every 10 minutes to avoid burning. Finally, make sure the temperature of the oven does not exceed 245 degrees.

Finally, you will notice the color of the weed has turned to dark brownish-green from dark brown, and that is when you will know your weed is decarboxylated.

Step2: Stovetop Cooking Of The Cannabutter Infusion

First, you need to put water and butter in a medium saucepan to boil in low heat.

When the butter melts completely, stir the mixture well and add the decarboxylated cannabis to the pan.

Mix it well with a wooden spoon and cover the pan with a lid. Now, let it simmer for at least 3-4 hours.

Now you have to stir the mixture every 30 minutes to avoid burning. You can also use a thermometer to check the temperature of the stove is correct or not. Don’t let the temperature go above 180 degrees Fahrenheit ever.

After that, place a cheesecloth over a container and pour the mixture on the cheesecloth. Now, allow the liquid to drain into the container through the cheesecloth.

Finally, let the butter cool down at room temperature for approximately 45-60 minutes. When it is cooled, put the container in your refrigerator for some time if you want to use it immediately. If you’re going to use the cannabutter for the long term, keep it in an air-tight jar but don’t keep it for more than six months.

Tips And Tricks For Using Cannabutter

Always remember to store your cannabutter separately from your other canned goods because people might mistake it for cookies or candies. In addition, it can pose a significant risk for children aged under five, so don’t make them eat any edible cannabutter products

You might experience hallucination, dry mouth, impaired motor control, sleepiness, altered senses, and paranoia as a side effect. But, if you consume it excessively, you can also experience delusion and psychosis, which can be dangerous.

If you want to test if your cannabutter is made perfectly, then use ½ teaspoon of it on any preferred snack and see how it impacts you in an hour. Judging by that effect, you can decide to either increase or decrease your dose while making some dish with cannabutter.

Conclusion

We recommend that people who are habituated to doping consume cannabutter products. Because you can never know the accurate concentration of THC compound in the weed so there are high chances that people might overconsume it. In that case, it can be risky for those who are not used to doping, so give it to them only who can handle the after-effect.
