Want to know how to make crispy hash browns from frozen? But for that, you need to first know how to make hash at home. This article will do just that. It will guide you through the nuanced process of making hash out of cannabis flowers. So let’s dive right in.

What Is Hash?

What Is Hash

Ever wondered ‘How to make hashish?” Well, in order to answer that question effectively, there are a few other things that you need to know and understand. Only after that can you truly know and understand the process of making hashish or those hash brown patties you have wanted to make for a while now.

In a nutshell, hashish is nothing but separated trichomes of the cannabis plants. And if you ask, what are the trichomes? The trichomes are fine hair-like structures that you can find on your bud. They are essentially microscopic. Therefore, you have to really strain your eyes to notice them clearly.

If you have a hard time pinpointing the trichomes, these look like small stalks with mushroom heads. These are mostly found in clusters on the epidermal layers of your cannabis flower. However, there are other places in the plant where you can find trichomes, like the stalks, leaves, etc. The trichomes or the resins include all the good stuff, including the THC, CBD, and the respective terpenes.

Several experts claim that hash is one of the oldest psychoactive substances known to man. Researchers found that the earliest documents of hashish date back to the 1100s. One of the most notable and oldest forms of hashish is charas or finger hashish.

Hash v/s Marijuana

Hash vs Marijuana

Hash and marijuana both have a similar origin. Still, due to the very composition of these two substances, they both share a certain number of differences that set them two apart from each other.

According to the Drug Enforcement Administration (DEA) of USA, hash or hashish is the most potent cannabis concentrate out there. Since hash is made by concentrating THC and cannabis residue, it has a much higher THC concentration than a marijuana bud. Studies show that a marijuana bud contains around 40% THC. Meanwhile, hash or hash oils contain somewhere around 90% THC. Therefore, this is a more potent product than marijuana.

Many a study show that hashish, or hash, generally originated from the Middle Eastern part of Asia. These generally include Pakistan, North Africa, Afghanistan, etc. Meanwhile, marijuana is a plant that grows all over the world.

Marijuana comes in all sizes. In other words, marijuana, in general, has varying THC levels that can range from 18% to 25%. As a result, this is more approachable by newer users who are just looking to experiment. However, marijuana edibles and concentrates like hashbrown patties or hashish contain a much higher THC level. Subsequently making it more intimidating to newer users. This means if an inexperienced user is not careful around hash, he or she can lose their shit. Pardon my French.

  • A set of five-gallon ice water bags. (Bubble bags are preferably the best.)
  • Filter cloth of preferably 25 microns.
  • Three clean five-gallon plastic buckets.
  • Wooden spoon for stirring the concoction
  • Butter knife or anything stiff for collecting hash from bags.
  • Absorbent towels
  • 200 grams of cannabis flowers.
  • Water hose.
  • Turkey roasting bags
  • Tray
  • Heat-resistant gloves (if needed)
  • Parchment paper.
  • Bottle filled with hot water.

Procedure

If you have procured all the necessary items. You are ready to proceed to the next level of the “how to make hash 101”. Keep following the process in order to create one of the most potent cannabis concentrates at your home

Line the buckets: Line one of the buckets with the higher number of microns. Or the largest filter hole.

Fill the bucket: Fill one-third of the bag with ice, and pour in your 200 grams of flower. Top off the whole thing with a layer of ice and fill the rest of the bag with cold water. Wait for a brief period of time in order to give the trichomes a chance to freeze up.

Stir: Agitate the mixture or stir the mixture as hard as possible for 5 minutes. Keep in mind not to pulverize the plant residues.

Drain the bag: After you are done stirring the bag, wait for about 10 minutes to let the trichomes settle. Once the trichomes settled, drain the bag and set the bag of cannabis aside in the second bag.

Line the third bucket: Line your third bucket with filter paper starting from the smallest size of filters and then layer it up in ascending order.

Fill the third Bucket: Slowly pour the water into the bag and allow the resin glands to settle so that the hue of the water turns a little golden.

Drain the Bag: Let the water run through the filters and into the bottom of the bucket. Also, make sure to wash off any contaminants if you find some. This would enhance the quality of your hash.

Scrape: After you are done drying out the filter, remove the excess water on a towel. Use the butter knife to scrape the hash by making the filter paper taut. If you do not have a knife, a card can also help you do that. Keep repeating the process till you collect all the hash.

Drying: Once you are done collecting the hash, which would be wet at this point, you need to lay it on the tray and dry it in a cool, dark place. This would keep the hash mold-free and increase its shelf life.
