Know Your Cannabinoids: THCA Flower

THC Flowers. What are they? Well, we are here to help you understand just that. So hold on to your bowls as I will take you on a HIGHLY educated journey through the world of cannabinoids to answer all your questions regarding THCA and everything else related to it.

What Is THCA?

What Is THCA

Before we even start discussing what THCA Flower is, we need to understand what THCA is first. THCA is an acronym for the word tetrahydrocannabinolic acid. THCA, or more specifically, Delta 8 and Delta-9 THCA, is a naturally occurring cannabinoid that can be found in hemp and cannabis plants

Scientists define the THCA as `an acidic precursor of the famed THC. THCA primarily inhabits the young or freshly harvested batch of cannabis. When you look at it from an objective POV, you will know that this is primarily a non-psychoactive element until it is converted into THC, something we will discuss later on in this article. The primary process of transforming THCA into THC is called decarboxylation. The process of decarboxylation activates the psychoactive properties of the substance.

Does THCA Make You High?

This is an acidic, non-psychoactive precursor to THC. The primary reason why THCA is not psychoactive is because of its chemical structure. The arrangement of the chemical structure prevents it from binding to the CB1 brain receptors that make you feel high. But as soon as you turn the component into THC using heat, you will automatically activate the psychoactive property of the substance. With that out of the way, you are ready to know more about THCA flowers.

THCA Flower: What Is It?

THCA flowers are buds of cannabis that have dormant THC components in them. Now, THCA is primarily a precursor to THC. Hence, it does not have the same psychoactive properties that  THC possesses. Still, the compound is not at all useless by any means.

The compound has several anti-inflammatory and neuroprotective effects that qualify it as a medicinal substance. Users claim that they felt more energized and focused after consuming the substance.  However, research is still ongoing on this issue. But doctors claim that data speaks for itself, and there are some really potent benefits to cannabis and THCA.

One of the most important characteristics that sets this compound apart is its overall versatility. According to your preference, you can consume the compound accordingly. Since THCA is not inherently psychoactive in nature, you can easily use it for medicinal purposes without worrying too much about the altered state that the cannabis puts you in. However, if you want to consume a substance like your run-of-the-mill THC, you can do that as well. You just have to apply a substantial amount of heat to it. As soon as you do it, you will be experiencing the effects of THC isomers. This makes the THCA flower my personal favorite it offers the right kind of versatility that I prefer.

Overall Legality Of THCA Flower.

Legality is a big concern for anybody consuming or planning on consuming THC and its derivatives. However, according to the federal 2018 Farm Bill, hemp or cannabis products that contain less or equal to 0.3% THC by dry weight are legal. Since THCA Flower fulfills this requirement, it is a perfectly legal substance.

Now, even though technically the product is legal, we suggest you check the local cannabis laws properly in order to confirm that you are not violating any. Different states have different measures of punishment for violating cannabis laws. So, I believe that it is better to be safe than sorry.

How To Turn THCA Into THC.

How To Turn THCA Into THC

THCA is an acidic precursor of THC that does not have the psychoactive property of the latter unless you are putting the THCA through a process called decarboxylation. Now decarbing THCA is not a linear process, you can decarb THCA in several ways, but applying heat is the most common. Whenever you add heat to the THCA via smoking or vaping, what you are doing is actually activating those psychoactive chemicals that marijuana or hemp plants have.

Decarboxylation can also be achieved using time. Users claim that if you leave THCA out in the sun, it can turn into THC over time. In fact, storing it in cold storage will also trigger the process of decarbing. So, any THCA-laden cannabis that has been aged or is exposed to the elements for long enough will turn into THC.

Does THCA Show Up On Drug Screenings

This is another concern that people have when it comes to cannabis. Even though it has been legalized across several states in the US, THC or cannabis is still a highly debatable topic. Several employers see cannabis as a taboo subject and expect their employees to refrain from it. Therefore they conduct regular drug screening.

Most drug screenings employment organizations conduct primarily look for psychoactive metabolites of THC. And since THCA has a slightly different chemical structure along with no psychoactive properties, technically, it should not light up the drug screenings.

But before you jump to a conclusion, I will suggest that you take a step back. Even though most drug screenings will not be able to detect the metabolites of THCA Flowers in your bloodstream, some screenings are sensitive enough and can show false positives. These are more common in immunoassay screenings. These screenings are suited to look for a range of cannabinoids. Hence, these tests can detect traces of THCA in your bloodstream.
